D1-9000
Boeing has supplemented ISO 9002 with
additional requirements "... in the belief that they will benefit the
final customer, the supplier, regulatory agencies, and Boeing. None of these
supplimentary requirements are in contradiction to those of ISO 9002."
This information is provided by Boeing in a
1/2 inch thick bound manual "D1-9000, Advanced Quality System."
This became effective January 1, 1997.

D1-9000 Advanced Quality System
Section 1 Basic Quality System
(BQS)
This section describes basic requirements that must be in place to qualify as a
Boeing-approved supplier and addresses areas that must comply with regulatory
and aerospace industry requirements and standards.
BQS Compliance Questionnaire
This section contains the Basic Quality System Compliance Questionnaire. The
questionnaire further defines the quality system requirements of D1-9000
Section 1 and shall be considered an extension of this standard. The
questionnaire shall be used by suppliers to support the development of their
D1-9000 procedures and internal audit checksheets.
Section 2 Advanced Quality
System (AQS)
This section describes requirements for D1-9000 Advanced Quality System
approval. It provides methods and a process for variation reduction of key
characteristics on products provided to Boeing. Requirements for statistical
control, capability, and sources of variation are also described in this
section.
AQS Compliance Questionnaire
This section contains the Advanced Quality System Compliance Questionnaire. The
questionnaire restates the quality system requirements of D1-9000 Section 2.
The questionnaire should be used by suppliers to support the development of
their D1-9000 procedures and internal audit checksheets.
AQS Concepts
This appendix provides an overview of subjects covered in Section 2 and expands
upon many terms included in the glossary at the end of this document.

D1-9000-1 AQS Tools
This separate document is a detailed tutorial on the various tools referenced
in D1-9000 Section 2. Among the topics discussed are statistical process
control (SPC), design of experiments, risk analysis, histograms, and gage
variation stud-ies. This document also demonstrates control charting and other
online and offline statistical techniques.
D1-9000-2 AQS Case Studies
This document, also printed separately, contains case studies showing how the
Section 2 Advanced Quality System can be implemented for various commodities.
Included, are sheet metal, assembly, electronics, process, and hydraulics
examples. Each step in the AQS process, including process improvement activity,
